Longford
Culture and Creativity Plan 2017

A county known for its roots in Irish mythology, it’s where the legend The Wooing of Étain took place, its beautiful heritage sites like Abbeyshrule’s Cistercian abbey, and its rich literary heritage via writers Oliver Goldsmith and Maria Edgeworth; Longford’s Creative Ireland Culture and Creativity Plan is set to put culture and creativity front-and-centre in the lives of its vibrant community.

With the Creative Ireland programme centred around the themes of identity, culture and citizenship, Longford’s part in the initiative’s five-year journey begins with its extensive plans for 2017.

Longford’s Creative Ireland Culture and Creativity Plan is set to put culture and creativity front-and-centre in the lives of its vibrant community.

The county’s Creativity and Culture Plan will enhance existing initiatives like the Edgeworth Science Festival, Longford Trad Sessions and Longford School of Rock, support projects promoting creativity and community across the county like International Poetry Day, Longford County Fleadh Cheoil and The Táin March walking festival; and help establish new initiatives like the inaugural Padraic Colum Literary Festival, celebrating one of the county’s best-known writers.

This is a first edition of the Local Authority Culture and Creativity Plan and is subject to change.
