Longford

Culture and Creativity Strategy 2018-2022

A county known for its roots in Irish mythology, it’s where the legend The Wooing of Étain took place, where beautiful heritage sites like Abbeyshrule’s Cistercian abbey can be found, and where rich literary heritage via writers Oliver Goldsmith and Maria Edgeworth hail from. Longford’s Creative Ireland Culture and Creativity Strategy is putting culture and creativity front and centre in the lives of its vibrant community members.

With the Creative Ireland programme centred around the themes of identity, culture and citizenship, Longford’s part in the initiative’s five-year journey began in 2017 with an extensive list of plans.

Longford’s Creative Ireland Culture and Creativity Strategy is putting culture and creativity front and centre in the lives of its vibrant community members.

The county’s Creativity and Culture Strategy is enhancing existing initiatives like the Edgeworth Science Festival, Longford Trad Sessions and Longford School of Rock, supporting projects promoting creativity and community across the county like International Poetry Day, Longford County Fleadh Cheoil and The Táin March walking festival, and helping to establish new initiatives like the inaugural Padraic Colum Literary Festival, which celebrates one of the county’s best-known writers.
