Investing in our Creative and Cultural Infrastructure

Infheistíocht in Infreastruchtúr na Cruthaitheachta agus an Chultúir

The Government recognises that high quality infrastructure is critical for a vibrant arts and culture sector and that investment in cultural infrastructure underpins social cohesion and supports strong and sustainable economic growth. Creative Ireland will help facilitate consideration of
infrastructure priorities on an integrated
phased basis.

Significant investment programmes are already underway or planned for the National Gallery, the National Library, the National Archives and the National Concert Hall. A three-year €9m capital investment scheme in regional and local arts and cultural centres is also underway. The nine ‘Permanent Reminder’ capital projects for 2016 constitute a major built legacy of the Ireland 2016 Centenary Programme.

Using existing resources, the Department of Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs is supporting the National Cultural Institutions in preparing ambitious but realistic investment plans, building on the progress already underway, to address infrastructure deficiencies in a planned and measured way.

The Department of Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs will work with cultural institutions and other key stakeholders to develop an overall capital strategy for the cultural and heritage sector, to include digitisation projects and the building of cultural collections, feeding into the Mid-term Review of the Capital Programme in mid-2017.

Le Éire Ildánach éascófar breithniú ar thosaíochtaí infreastruchtúir ar bhonn céimnithe comhtháite.

Tá cláir shuntasacha infheistíochta ar bun cheana féin nó beartaithe maidir leis an nGailearaí Náisiúnta, an Leabharlann Náisiúnta, an Chartlann Náisiúnta agus an Ceoláras Náisiúnta. Tá scéim trí bliana maidir le hinfheistíocht chaipitil dar luach €9m i ndáil le hionaid ealaíon agus cultúir réigiúnacha agus áitiúla ar bun chomh maith. Beidh na naoi dtionscadal caipitil a bhaineann leis na ‘Meabhrúcháin Bhuana’ ina gcuid shuntasach den oidhreacht foirgníochta a eascraíonn as Éire 2016: Clár Comórtha Céad Bliain.

Trí úsáid a bhaint as acmhainní atá ar fáil cheana féin, tá an Roinn Ealaíon, Oidhreachta, Gnóthaí Réigiúnacha, Tuaithe agus Gaeltachta ag cuidiú leis na Forais Náisiúnta Cultúir pleananna infheistíochta uaillmhianacha ach réadúla a ullmhú, a chuirfidh leis an dul chun cinn atá á dhéanamh cheana féin, agus tabhairt faoin easnamh infreastruchtúir ar bhealach réamhphleanáilte.

Oibreoidh an Roinn Ealaíon, Oidhreachta, Gnóthaí Réigiúnacha, Tuaithe agus Gaeltachta leis na forais chultúir agus le príomhpháirtithe leasmhara eile chun straitéis caipitil fhoriomlán a thabhairt chun cinn i ndáil le hearnáil an chultúir agus na hoidhreachta, lena n-áirítear tionscadail digitiúcháin agus bailiúcháin chultúir a chur le chéile, agus tabharfar an obair sin faoi mheas leis an Athbhreithniú Lár Téarma ar an gClár Caipitil i rith na bliana 2017.

Devising an integrated implementation plan for arts in education is a priority for Creative Ireland.
More
The empowerment of local authorities to lead the engagement of citizens with our arts and culture is essential.
More
The overarching, long-term objective of this pillar is to elevate the creative industries including media, architecture, design, digital technology, fashion, food and crafts.
More
Amid increasingly fierce global competition for investment, tourism and export markets, a clear articulation of a country’s values, capabilities and beliefs about itself is increasingly important.
